Summer Barbecues - January 28, 2013

The Couch usually shuts down for a summer break, from December to February, but this doesn't always mean The Couch gatherings stop. One particular activity that often brings people together is the good old fashioned summer barbecue.

In years past, it was common for The Couch to hold barbecues at places including the Yarra River, Williamstown Beach, and Albert Park Lake. However, in the summer of 2013, we found a new spot in the Docklands. As well as being relatively quiet (meaning we could always find a free barbecue), it had plenty of shade from the trees, an open field for playing games, and even a nearby playground with swings!

After cooking up a proverbial feast fit for kings, we would usually work off those extra calories with games like soccer or throwing frisbees.

Summer barbecues organised by volunteers from The Couch are usually a lot of fun, and it's highly recommended you try to join. Often held on public holidays, keep an eye out on Facebook for when the next one will be!
