South American Christmas Party - December 16, 2015

The end of a year, and an era. As people arrived for The Couch End of Year Christmas Party (with a South American Theme), they were all given a small card with an address printed. What some may not have realised was this address had The Couch's new home printed on it. This party would be the last night The Couch would see at Hamodava Cafe, its home for the last five years!

Christmas decorations covered the cafe, and music played as finger foods emerged from the kitchen. Unfortunately, not pictured are some of the delicious Colombian desserts prepared by The Couch's own mother figure, Verena.

As they were even more quickly snatched up...

The Couch's own Unnamed Band (Axel AKA Dreampunk, Cika and Albert) filled the cafe with live music while, out the back, Hope and the ladies of PoisE'n Bollypop prepared their dance workshop.

Pictured: actual preparation.
As the Unnamed Band wrapped up their first set, PoisE'n Bollypop got out there and performed their dance, followed by getting some 'volunteers' from the audience to come up and join their workshop.

Some coercion required...
...but totally worth it.
After the fun and laughter of the group dance, the Unnamed Band got up again and once more serenaded the final party of The Couch at its old home.

But it wouldn't be a Christmas party without carols - so The Couch did what it did best by putting a cultural twist on it and we were all given a special treat of Christmas Carols in Spanish!

Finally, as is the measure of any successful party, the lights were dimmed so everyone could get their boogie on away from judgmental eyes.

But not judgmental cameras.
Thus ended the last party of The Couch at Hamodava Cafe. When The Couch reopens next year on 11 January 2016, it will be at 324 Drummond St, Carlton 3053 (see map below). Hopefully it marks the beginning of another 5 years of fun, laughter, learning and parties.
