Melbourne Victory vs Shanghai SIPG - February 24, 2016

On Wednesday, 24 February, students and volunteers from The Couch were invited by the City of Melbourne and Melbourne Victory to watch them play against Shanghai SIPG in an exciting game of high class soccer.

Students also had the chance to meet Gulcan Koca before the game!
While entering the stadium, students were treated to a traditional Chinese lion dance.

After half-time, the scores were level at 1 all, when Asamoah Gyan, one of the highest paid football players in the world, had to be stretched off with a groin injury.

The game continued, and Shanghai SIPG were on the attack looking to take the lead.

But it was in fact Victory who would take the lead after a somewhat controversial penalty kick was awarded to Kosta Barbarouses and strongly put away by Besart Berisha.

In the end, Melbourne Victory walked away with a 2-1 win over Shanghai SIPG.

Thanks to City of Melbourne and Melbourne Victory for inviting us to the game!
